CONNECT  WITH  YOUR  WORK  &  CO-WORKERS

If work is worship, workplace is the altar. Spirituality in the workplace is about individuals and organizations seeing work as a spiritual path, as an opportunity to grow and to contribute to society in a meaningful way. And we can only “grow” when we feel connected to something or someone. Connecting with work is essential for connecting oneself with God or one’s own spirit (soul). Here are some things which you should follow to feel better connected with your work and co-workers:

1) Responsibility

Things become burdens when we start avoiding them. Do at least one thing daily from which you shrink away. This will enable you to come forward and take responsibilities without feeling bored and overworked.

2) Communication

Most relations are marred by lack of communication. Silence increases disparities and hinders productivity - so do heated arguments; since people often forget the objective behind a discussion in the heat to make other people agree with their point. Respect everybody’s opinions even if you don’t agree with them. Listen to the other person first and then express yourself. Always encourage healthy discussions and try reaching a conclusion.

3) Team Work/Partnership

True enough, team work produces better results than individual effort. But how often are we willing and comfortable working with other people? Working in a team is the most difficult challenge we experience at the workplace, eventually realizing that it is more easily said than done. You might not like a certain person, disapprove his/her ways or feel that you have been assigned a harder task compared to others; but this is going to destroy your own peace of mind. Appreciating your team mates and looking beyond prejudices is the only way you can achieve salvation at the workplace.

4) Help and Care

Most often we “think” before helping others. Will he/she help me in return? Or, I won’t help him, didn’t he refuse me the last time? It is hard to help others selflessly but essential for strengthening relationships and settling old disputes. People will find a way even if you don’t help them, so why grudge and refuse?

5) Respect others

You come across all sorts of people at the workplace. Sometimes you might question yourself if such and such person deserves kind and respectful treatment. But your behavior has little to do with the other person’s “deservedness”. Being polite to your co-workers and juniors is an extension of your own personality. You might also regret later on account of your behavior or temperament. And your bad behavior can often discourage people further, rather than helping them improvise. Remember that dealing nicely with people always brings out the best in them.

5) Creativity

Creativity is what you “create” or bring to life from your imagination. Many a times we refuse to stir beyond imagination and make excuses, not realizing that it is the missing puzzle piece which connects us with our work. So don’t shrink from a bit of effort and enjoy the bliss of “creating”, because real inspiration comes from within you.

Most importantly, be enthusiastic about what you do - nobody likes a dull and lazy person. And try being punctual, since late comers are the most hated people at the workplace.
