Monsoon is one of the most beautiful seasons to explore India, its culture, people, natural beauty
and wildlife. When rain comes people can be seen dancing in rain and rejoicing in many ways.
Farmers of India welcome monsoon season, it gives them reason to celebrate their festivals,
pray for good crops and make special monsoon delicacies. Monsoon in India really gives one of the
best natural scenery, as rivers are on full swing, mountains are awake after a long sleep and
monsoon decorated the whole valleys with sparking waterfalls, magnificent lakes, lush green trees
and beautiful flowers. While the cool winds of the rainy season provide a welcome relief from the
warmer summer, there’s no arguing with the fact that the monsoons can wreak havoc on your
regular schedule.
Here are the some healthy options for Monsoon food
1.) Pyaaz Pakoda - It does not matter if the waters are rising to dangerous levels - as long as the
local street vendor keeps churning out crunchy, spicy pakodas.
A healthy alternative is instead of deep frying you can bake it by making the batter little thick and enjoy it with your Chach.
2.) Chach (buttermilk ) - Buttermilk has lactic acid in it, which fights germs and bad bacterias and
helps to clear stomach and aid digestion. It is very helpful for those who are looking to lose weight.
No more anaemia to worry. It is a rich source of Vitamin B12 and so is believed to help fight
anaemia and stress. Buttermilk also works as one of the best remedies to treat acidity.
The tincture that makes a rainy evening even more magical is a cup of strong, fragrant chach
to wash down those pakodas with.
3.) Besan Parantha ( gram flour prantha) - A bite of yummy besan parantha with the enticing
pudina chutney dip. Oh my God! HEAVEN. There are many health benefits of gram flour like
it lowers diabetes, it is Gluten free, fights allergies, helps in weight loss and more.
4.) Soup - Whether you are a serious foodie who makes their food from scratch or you're a regular
Joe who'd rather buy the ready-to-cook version - there is nothing like a steaming bowl of your
favorite soup, your favorite show playing on the TV/laptop, and the rain outside.
5.) Kala Chana salad (black chickpeas salad) - Season of the year in which we should take care
of our health and what can be better than kala chana salad which is so much nutritive.
This food is low in Saturated Fat, and very low in Cholesterol and Sodium. It is also a good
source of Dietary Fiber, Protein and Copper, and a very good source of Folate and Manganese.
6.) Yogurt - A cup full of nutrients , Yogurt is highly nutritious and is an excellent source of protein,
calcium and potassium. It provides numerous vitamins and minerals and is relatively low in calories.
All in all, frozen yogurt can be safely viewed as a healthy alternative to ice cream.
The enzymatic benefits can aid digestion, and some of the additional health benefits of yogurt
remain in its sweetened and frozen form.
7.) Bhutta (Corn on the Cob) - If you get caught in the rain, spot the nearest bhutta-wala and
get yourself a hot, just-off-the-stove bhutta braised with a LOT of masala and lemon for a
quick antidote! If you are the finicky sorts, even steamed corn in a cup will do the trick.
Health benefits of corn include controlling diabetes, prevention of heart ailments, lowering
hypertension and prevention of neural-tube defects at birth.
8.) Momos - Momos actually taste good in all kinds of weather. However, a steaming plate of
momos with some hot garlic sauce and red chutney during a shower is like chicken soup for the soul!
9.) Roasted Chicken - For most guys, a break from the deadly summer heat in the form of a rainy
evening means celebrating with India's most favorite food - tandoori chicken. The crispy meat
dipped in the minty green chutney and accompanied by onion rings - heaven!
10.) Hummus - The creamy and decadent taste of this Middle Eastern dip has become a healthy
kitchen staple in the homes of millions of hearts. Hummus’s ingredients, including mashed
chickpea, tahini, oil, lemon juice, and garlic, load the thick paste with vitamins, antioxidants
and minerals. A high-fiber diet can help lower blood cholesterol levels, among other benefits,
such as lowering heart disease risk, type 2 diabetes risk, and aiding in weight loss.
